Children’s Book Week Event: A Celebration of Food, Culture, and Communities
Celebrate Children’s Book Week by attending a family-friendly virtual event celebrating food, culture, and communities as represented in children’s books! Hosted by Kevin Maillard, author of the Sibert Medal and the American Indian Youth Literature Honor-winning book Fry Bread, and featuring authors and illustrators, including Pura Belpré Award-winning author-illustrator Raúl the Third (¡Vamos! Let’s Go Eat & ¡Vamos! Let’s Go to the Market), Caldecott Award-winning Andrea Wang (Luli and the Language of Tea), Cheryl Chepulsova (Noodles, Please! A to Z Foods of the World), and Michael Genhart (May Your Life Be Deliciosa). This free event will take place online, offering author and illustrator spotlights, a group conversation about food and culture in children’s books, and an illustration demonstration, geared for children up to age eight; all are welcome to attend. This event is held in partnership with Bookshop.org and the Children’s Book Council.
If you are an author, illustrator, or independent bookstore interested in participating in this event series, please fill out this interest form, and we will reach out to you shortly. Thank you!
